I miss you, Mom

"One More Day"

Last night I had a crazy dream
A wish was granted just for me
It could be for anything
I didn't ask for money
Or a mansion in Malibu
I simply wished, for one more day with you

One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again
I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you

First thing I'd do, is pray for time to crawl
Then I'd unplug the telephone
And keep the TV off
I'd hold you every second
Say a million I love you's
That's what I'd do, with one more day with you

One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again
I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you

Leave me wishing still, for one more day
Leave me wishing still, for one more day

Pleasantville

Are you in a relationship? Did you answer yes?
Now:
Do you communicate?
Do you have a lot in common?
Does your SO "get" you?
Do you "get" your SO?
Are you in love?
Is your idea of a perfect night spent with your SO, and it doesn't matter what you do?

I am sure that you answered yes to the above questions, because really, what other answer is there?

"Hell no, but I am with the (insert adjective) anyway!"

Yeah, not entirely likely. Maybe you missed my sarcasm as I ask those questions, but it most assuredly is there. If you are a girl you know that one of the things that girls talk about most, is their relationship--especially among other girls. Does not matter the stage of the relationship: new love, early relationship, long term, engagement, marriage, etc, it is all the same. There is one thing I know to be true:

No one has as good a relationship as you. You are the normal one, the original Brady Bunch model. How, for the love of god, how!! do (insert names here) stay together?! How does (insert name) put up with (insert behavior here)?! I know I would not (insert your self righteous statement here)!

It's true! You know it is. Take a minute. Sit back in your chair--DO IT! Think about it. You know I am right. If you do not believe me, please refer to a previous post. Yes, judgment. We all pass it around.

Other uncomfortable truths:

Your relationship is not perfect. Someone is looking at you with the same questions (please refer to the one thing I know to be true above). So go to the kitchen, take out the salt, pick out a grain and take it.

We live, we complain, we learn, life goes on. ob la di, ob la da.

New Year's Resolutions

Here I am---another year, another resolution. I have been pondering the resolutions I would make for this new year since November. I really want to make a conscience decision to choose things that are important to me and my current lifestyle choices. I want to make meaningful changes that will be fulfilling. These resolutions will go into effect on January 7th (since we cannot possibly begin resolutions mid-week...DUH), so here goes:

Resolution #1: Limit the number of restaurant/fast food trips.
In our household we have realized that a lot of money is spent on food: going out to restaurants, lunches, and money spent on groceries at Publix. WAY too much money. So, the aim is to limit going out for dinner/lunch to once a week. For some that may seem like a lot, but that is manageable for us at this point. Please, remember that we have an 8 month old, and this is a direct correlation to Resolution #2. To sum it up: Going out to eat only once a week and the rest of the week will me meals at home.

Resolution #2: Learn to effectively manage my time so that I can resume my organizational abilities
Since Cristian was born in April, my ability to segment my time into manageable order has diminished almost entirely. I am completely at his mercy and go by his schedule rather my own. I want to feel a step ahead rather than 2 steps behind. My life currently feels like an assembly line--as long as all the points along the line are working and doing their part, life is good. If one of those steps gets overlooked one day, pandemonium ensues. I want to learn to manage my time and also be okay when things do not go as planned. This resolution may be cheating a bit because I have already started to work on it. I just need to firm up some aspects of the plan.

Resolution #3: Cut out soda and caffeine
This is the big one, Elizabeth! That is a Sanford & Son phrase my Mom would use when something big would happen and cutting soda and caffeine from my diet is going to be huge. I have done it before (being pregnant kinda of necessitates the cutting of caffeine) but Cristian gave me focus and determination. I am starting slow--cutting soda down to one a day and coffee as well. I will move to only coffee, switch to half-caff and then remove it completely. I hope to have this feat accomplished by the end of February. Mark your calendars!

Resolution #4: Eat Healthier
190. 195. 201. 215. 226. 233. 245. 250. Yup, enough is enough. Weight, and the gaining and losing of it, is the bane of my existence. I hate it and everything about it. I can't remember not having a weight problem. I have gained and re-lost the same 60ish pounds. I am sick of it. However, this is not about the number this time around. Plain and simple: I want to be around for Cristian a LONG, LONG time. This means making some big changes. Do I like cupcakes? Nope, not at all. I freaking LOVE cupcakes! Do I need to eat 2? Absolutely not--one is more than enough. Those are the things I am currently talking about. Eating to live and not living to eat, which is my currently frame of mind. I am still trying to figure out what this looks like, but my aim is to feel better, eat better and maybe fit into more of my clothes.

So there you have it, the resolutions for 2013. I am hoping that I can manage all 4 effectively (see Resolution #2) and come out on the other side feeling a bit better. Here is to a great 2013 and may all your resolutions become realities!
